Hi, is it possible for you to publish the "argument" for FlashGet too?
Thanks

Good job -- it seems to work well in Mozilla Suite 1.6 as well.
One thing though: It seems that in Windows, it is required that the pathname to the downloader must be specified in short form (i.e. "C:Program FilesGetrightgetright.exe" should be specified as "C:Progra~1Getrightgetright.exe") otherwise the extension doesn't work.
Apart from that, it seems to function well!
Keep up the excellent work!

I installed FlashGet, but I could not find any documentation about FlashGet command line options. I think this is not supported by Flashget :(Rimas
DownloadWith works well with long path names, but I made a mistake with Getright path. I corrected the samples configurations but the default configuration will be on next version.Thank you for the feedbacks.

Any plans to add integrated download monitoring to this extension? (IE set up filters so that files with certan extensions would automatically download with the application of your choice. You could still do this using command line arguments). Doing this you'd be able to finally replace the lousy download monitoring that a lot of these third party download apps have, and replace it with a far more accurate and powerful browser-side monitoring that would work almost universally. I was thinking of starting up a project like that myself, but you seem to already be halfway there ^_^.

Paradox
I couldn't understand what kind of integration you are suggesting. But I am planning to add a filters option in next version, so the bittorrent application will appear only when URL finished with ".bittorrent" - [7] Submitted by: Paradox on Sunday February 15th 2004
-
What I mean is add download monitoring similar to what getright would provide except from the browser level. IE in most download managers with IE you can specify filetypes to automatically download with the download manager(IE, have all .exe files automatically be handled by the download manager instead of the browser's built-in download system). However most of these download managers have really crappy integration with Mozilla/Firefox or none at all. What I'm saying is you could add a filter system such that the user could set up something like: "always download zip files with Getright." And then whenever a Zip file download starts, the URL would be intercepted and sent as a command line parameter to Getright rather than downloaded in the browser.

I'd like to vote for what Paradox is requesting too.

I was thinking about this the other day, and i thought of a way that DownloadWith can handle everything the browser can without catching clicks or filtering out extensions. What if DownloadWith added an option to the Save/Open dialog Mozilla/Firefox uses? The browser has already determined that the target is in fact a download, If you can add the option to download using an external manager here, then you automatically take advantage of the download detecting that Mozilla/Firefox has already done.

Help About lists the following.
DAP Main Module: 7.0.1.4
DAP UI resources: 7.0.0.6
DAP Internet Explorer Agent: 7.0.0.1
DAP Netscape/Mozilla Agent: 5.3.9.5
DAP Internet Explorer Bar: 5.3.9.7
DAP Browser Helper: 5.3.9.5
DAP Multimedia Agent: 1.0.0.5
Media Center: 1.0.1.2
Games: 1.0.0.1When DAP isn't running at all and has no icon in system tray, choosing download with DAP launches DAP and puts the icon in the systray. However the show window menu option in the right click menu of the system tray icon does not show the window.

Also I tried integrating DAP into Firefox by copying the dapop.dll into the plugins directory as npdap.dll. This works and when I click on a link, the page changes and DAP is started and asks me where to put the file.

On the topic of direct integration, I would take a look at the code for DownloadSort:
http://downloadstatusbar.mozdev.org/downsort/
It is able to intercept downloads based on file extension or keyword and then perform a user-set download action. I'm sure you could copy it's method for doing this to create filters that would call external download managers instead. (originally when I thought of my idea I though of it as a DownloadSort modification, but since you already have the other half of the functionality I was after, you should be able to do this by combining the two). I took a look at doing this once before, but admittedly couldn't figure out some of DownloadSort's code. E-mailing Velcrospud for pointers might not be a bad idea. ^_^ Good luck!

Since many download managers support other protocols than just http and ftp, could these be added aswell to downloadwith? For instance mms://. Currently it seems to be blocked by the extension itself and should be a quick fix. For the future it might be a good idea to make an option so you can edit supported protocols.
Hell, while your at it why not be able to specify certain managers for each protocol. It could have multiple uses. - [30] Submitted by: mcx6 on Tuesday March 16th 2004

Right-click over link that you wanna download, click on "DownloadWith" option and then click on downloader optionrj
URLs with "=" works with me on Windows, I will try on Linux too. Isn't the shell broking the URL? Maybe "=" is a special caracter for the shell. Try to quote the URL. - [35] Submitted by: Paradox on Friday March 19th 2004

I thought I'd let you know that DownloadWith doesn't seem to want to install unless you're installing as root. (On a Gentoo box running kernel 2.6.3, Firefox 0.8.) When you do install it as root, the .jar file has permissions which only allow root rw access, and no r access for any other users. This causes strange behavior in Firefox for any non-root user until the permissions are changed, and makes it impossible to set the options for the extension.

Gbitten,
Here's what I use for xmms.Identification: xmms
Label: xmms

As "clefmeister" points out, there is a problem with the permissions when installing as root into the application directory in order to affect all users. The workaround, until this is fixed, is:
su
(root password, will not be echoed to screen)
cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/chrome/ (or similar)

While trying to install the extension(0.0.6 and 0.0.7-RC1) as non-root user in firefox 0.8, i was getting an error about write access in profile_dir and it would refuse to copy the .jar there. After playing for 5 minutes with install.js i noticed that it didn't actually ask me the const INST_TO_PROFILE (Do you wish to install to profile or click cancel to install to mozila dir) at all!
I had to modify the install.js script in order to install the extension in my profile dir (under linux - dunno if it matters). I used the installer from all-in-one-gestures as a guide. For some reason these lines in your installer(0.0.7-RC1) don't work as they were meant to:
var instToProfile = (buildID>2003030600 && confirm(INST_TO_PROFILE));
var chromef = instToProfile ? getFolder("Profile", "chrome") : getFolder("chrome
");If you take a peek in all-in-one gestures extension's installer the ifs in a more clear syntax, and they also work for user profile directory installations. I dont include my .js, because it was a quick hack to get it to work *only* for profile_dir installations. I know it's not a bid deal, but it would be cool if the extension incorporated a cleaner installer that works for profile_dir installations out-of-its-box :)
Now that i got it to work all i can say is, thanks for the wonderfull extension. it rocks!

George, this is not actually a problem with the installer, but a problem that exists in Firefox 0.8 official and certain unofficial nightly builds. If you modify the install script to include a line:
alert(buildID);
You will see that the buildID is 0. It fails the test and assumes that you are using an older Mozilla/FF build, so it never asks for profile/application install. This bug is caused by a problem with the build environment of the person who compiled your FF build. If you are using an optimized build, you should probably contact the builder and refer them to this mozillazine thread:

/usr/bin/wget --referer=[REFERER]
(--referer=)... dunno if that *works* (yet), but there oughta be some way of passing along the referer if possible -- some sites won't let you download if they can't see it.
--user-agent="Mozilla/5.0" -t 0 -c
(--user-agent=)... wget lets you send any string as a user agent -- again, some sites won't let you download if they see "wget" (the default) in the agent string.
(-t 0)... Sets number of retries to infinity.
(-c)... allows you to resume a partially-downloaded file.
-P /home/username/downloaddir [URL]
("-P ~" created a directory named "~" in my home... ;-)

Hello, gbitten --
You have an excellent extension here which has made my life immeasurably easier. Many thanks to you and Paradox.
Two points FYI --
1) The first-rate ContextMenu Extensions by Shimoda "Piro" Hiroshi also supports downloads by third party dl managers that support command line arguments. Just go to the "Applications" panel to configure. It also supports invoking other 3rd party progs from Firefox. You might want to add this to your list of other progs that handle dls.
2) From my own testing, and even from direct contact with one of the developers, I can state that the following progs do NOT support command line arguments, and so do not work with DW:
FreshDownload
DLExpert 0.99
GetIt 1.04 (this one straight from the developer). If anyone has contrary info, I hope they speak up to help us all out.
Thanks.

Getright 5.1 doesn't seem to work with Downloadwith
I used the sample settings and the getright download window pops up and prompts me to save but when i click save, it just closes without saving anything. What's up with this? I tried changing it to short form too to no avail.

After some further testing, discovered that downloadwith was creating new processes of getright whenever i clicked downloadwith and it still refuses to download. When i opened my task manager i had tons of getright.exe running probably due to the number of times i tried downloading with it.
I then closed it all and restarted firefox and getright and tried it again...again it opened a new instance of getright.exe instead of using the current one. Hope this helps.

Hi,
This is a great plugin, I've searched for years for a component like this.
Anyway, I'd like to recommend a new feature: it would be very great, if the plugin supports a "Download All" feature, so you don't have to click on the pages one-by-one the files.
It would really be a lot of easier.
Thanks, I hope, that some day we'll see this feature. :)Greetings, mozuse

Reuben, the plugin has been tested extensively with Getright, I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. Make sure Getright is running in your system tray, makes sure that in DownloadWith's options the path to getright.exe is correct, and make sure the argument is just:
[URL]If you still can't get it to work, please post more information about your browser. IE you said Firefox? What version? What OS? Maybe a sample link you've tried to download from that doesn't work? Are there any errors in your Javascript console (toolsJavascript Console) when your try to download something with Getright?
I'm looking in to adding support for "Download All" features that some download managers have. Flashget's current method uses VBScript, so it will not work in Firefox, but if it supports command line parameters for this as well it should be possible to do.

this tool is great.
One little thing I'd like to see is that if you click on a link while holding certain keys (like ctrl+alt) it uses the default download.Or the reverse : only use an external downloader whenever you hold a certain key combination.
Naturaly that behavior and the key combo's should be user-configurable.
You created something I like, so I make you suffer for it ;-)

Well I have also Problems with Getright:
1. I learned that you have to delete all Filetypes (you want to download with Getright (zip, exe etc.)) under Tools, Options, Downloads, Filetypes. Had there "save to disk" for zip etc. before...
Now Downloadwith works for zip, iso etc. (AND you dont have to have Getright running in your system tray!)
BUT exe files are always downloaded with Firefox downloader and not Getright?
Sample URL: http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=getrt510.exe&size=3048387
But right mouse click -> downloadwith works with getright!I'm using Firefox 0.8 and Downloadwith 0.0.7,Getright 5.1, path to Getright is correct and argument is just: [URL]
Using WinXP and Downloadwith is set on Automatic Download -> All Files -> Getright - [3] Submitted by: cray on Saturday May 8th 2004

Hi ppl
If u guys have IDA (Internet Download Accelerator) and would like to have it function with Downloadwith u may do so with the following commands.Indetification: IDA
Label: Internet Download Accelerator
Command: C:Program FilesIDA|ida.exe
Arguments: [URL]Please note that the above command string C:Program FilesIDA|ida.exe is dependant on where u have installed ur IDA in my case it has been installed in the above if ur download manager has been installed elsewhere please specify the correct directory in the command field.
What i would like to see in Downloadwith 0.0.8 is the ability to have downloadwith utilise Download all command which is available in most External 3rd party download managers such as reget, IDA, flashget, leechget etc.
I would also like to note that if users are not please with the default download manager and would prefer to usse IDA as their download manager it is simple, just go to the options screen and select the tick box which is next to the 'integrate to Netscape (ver 6.x-7.x), Mozilla.
Top stuff guys keep up the good work.

*** Thanks, this is great!! ***
I got irritated by the downloadmanager in Firefox, some files would be downloaded by Star downloader, some not. Star is more clearly arranged. It seems to be quicker and more trustworthy too. FF's downloader sometimes stops and i can't get it to continue (slow connection here ... but cheap).Pity the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on."-option doesn't work. Then it could be truly automated.
Keep up the good work - Martin - Nederland

Hello,
I have installed the extension DownloadWith. As user, the installation didn't work because a I've got the message that I have not the permission to write in my profile directory. So I install it as root. Root can use the extension. But now users can't use firefox. There is this message on console:
*** Failed to load overlay chrome://downloadwith/content/downloadwithOverlay.xul
Does anybody know what is the problem?
I use Firefox 0.8 on Gentoo Linux.
Thank you. - [14] Submitted by: mixer on Saturday May 15th 2004

I had the same problem as clefmeister, LX, and Pamplemousse_mk2 pointed out.
The installation fails on line 15 of install.js :
> var instToProfile = (buildID>2003030600 && confirm(INST_TO_PROFILE));
If I type this in the address bar:
javascript:alert(buildID)
The "javascript console" shows this error:
Error: buildID is not defined
Source File: javascript:alert(buildID)
Line: 1
Could it be that "buildID" is only defined for certain versions?

The buildID problem is not a bug in our install script, it's a problem with the build environment of the person who created the build you are using. There was a thread on this on Mozillazine's builds forum awhile back. Unforunately this does affect 0.8 official, but official nightlies and most optimized builds are fine (return proper buildID's). In the new 0.9+ extension manager, extensions will not use install scripts, so this will not be an issue. Regardless I'm going to rewrite bits of the install script to account for this at some point (IE have it check the rv number in the user agent string if the buildID is zero, or something along those lines).

Oh, also the newest version of Net Transport (1.87.258 - released just a few days ago) supports command line parameters now. I haven't been able to find any documentation for them though, but it appears if you just use [URL] as your argument it will bring up a Net Transport prompt asking you were to save and the like. I don't actually use Net Transport, so I'm not sure what else it does or if it supports any command line switches or the like, if anyone finds anything out, or finds any documentation on NT's new command line parameters, please let us know. In the meantime this will work (only with the newest version!):

I think that this project is strictly related to the project 'linky', and that a joint effort could bring many advantages to both. We could suggest the linky team to add a button/feature 'DownloadWith' in the select links dialog.

... or better, merge the projects and have just one powerful download-management extension instead of two. Benefits would be higher stability & reliability. I tried both linky and DownloadWith and neither of them meets completely my needs.
This is the point of view of a simple mozilla user without any experience of programming or software development, take it as it is.

As always thankyou in advance for your help / advise.
Trying to set up "GetRight 5.1" download manager and "Downloadwith" Mozilla extension ver 0.0.7.
What I would like to do is use the following GetRight options.
Found in the Getright configuration "Downloads Tab"
1. add them (downloads) to list but do not start downloading new files.
2. ask me if files should be downloaded now or later.
3. download immediately. What is happening is regardless of which option I choose (1. or 2.) Getright will just start to immediately download the file(s).
This also is making it impossible for me to schedule downloads because once again files are just downloaded immediately. In Mozilla ver 1.6, my "Downloadwith" extension (found in preferances) is configured to use Getright and "automatic download" is disabled.
I have also tried "all files" option with no success. After GetRight configuration changes I would be prompted to reboot and I would do so.
When trying to download the Getright "save as" dialog box pops up, but does not offer an option to add to list or ask if I wish to download later.
I thought I would start here first and ask. I hope my question is clear.
Perhaps the current Downloadwith version does not yet support these type of features in Getright.
Or it is user error on my part.Your help is appreciated.
Have a great week all.

Works surprisingly well. This is perfect for downloading with Net Transport since that program has no real integration (a plugin but then it catches all downloads). BTW. There is a tools addon for Getright now that has a much smaller utility for adding downloads to it. Check the homepage for more information. They say it is much quicker.

You alone managed to work around a bug in Getright (via the "automatic download" setting in 0.07) that has plagued Mozilla and Netscape for AGES: now one can click on zip and exe files and have Getright pick them right up!

Could anyone tell me how to pass the current refferer from the page I download to wget
the option is --referer=[url] where the 'url' is the url of the current page
..is there a variable for this, which i can put in downloadwith's options, or this is a problem of wget, that it has no such thing in its options to automatically calculate the referrer from the url, passed to it?I will be very thankful if someone helps me
p.s. --referer=[REFERER] doesn't work
