I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your Downloadwith extension. I've not seen one that better integrates my download manager with Firefox. I especially like the part where it integrates into the download started by a webpage like download.com letting me choose the download manager from the dropdown menu. :)

I wanted to pass on a command line argument that I noticed was missing last time I checked the site. Leechget 2002 (and probably later) can start up the website parser with the following argument.

-parser [URL]

The parser is used to download pictures/files from a page, like to downlad all the pictures that appear on a link. I've added it to my browser and it's a nice little time saver. Thanks.

What I would like to see is an exception list when selecting all files under automatic downloading. Also a sample configuration for firefox's download manager would help with this.

Wow great extension! i am very impressed
i love it...

if u need some feature requests. on many download tools u have the option to "download all" on context menu it transfer the url to the download manager and list all links for downloading.

another good thing would be a configureable version of "IEVIEW"
good for webdevs, so i can open a page via content menu in different programs (browsers)

I'm experiencing problems with using the extension with GetRight. If I try to download several files in quick succession they all seem to get confused somehow as hardly any of them get downloaded. All files also seem to start downloading immediately which shouldn't happen.

Is there any other way to contact you Gbitten (assuming you are the creator) rather than using this form?

Andrew
I imagine you are using automatic download. The problem is that: when you click on link, Firefox sends a "get request" to web server, if the web serverīs response is a "html" or "pdf" Firefox continues to download this document and then shows it, if the web serverīs reponse is a document that is commonly downloaded like "exe" or "zip" then DownloadWith launches Getright. So if you click on two differents links quickly, probably there isnīt enough time web server responde the first click, then only second click is sended to Getright.

I hope my explanation is clear.

kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Firefox_:_FAQs_:_Uninstall_Extensions

Other suggestion, you can download downloadwith-0.0.7.xpi, extract downloadwith.zip and copy this file to directory where you deleted it.

DW is a simple extension, and I want to maintain it more simple as possible, so DW doesn't recognize if user use this or that version/localization of Windows. The default configurantions are for english Windows XP. But you can easily change this configuration in DW preference:
Tools > Extensions > DownloadWith 0.0.7 > Options Button (the highest of the three buttons on the right)

There is a new Getright-beta available with this (among others) interesting new feature:
"Improved the new ToGetRight.exe so it will start GetRight if it's not
running."
Before, "Getright - faster" did only work when Getright was already loaded (Icon on bottom right). Now it always works :-)

BTW. What about an Custom Icon to add to Toolbar to temporarily disable Download-With, since there are Sites out there that dont allow download with Downloadmanager. example:
Or perhaps a new Application Setting that (by right-click, Download-With...) starts Download with Firefox's own Downloadmanager, anybody knowns how to do that?

Hi I just downloaded your extension, since it is exactly what I am looking for. Sadly, I cannot get it to work. I use a german localized build of Firefox 0.8. First I couldn't access the options menu. After hacking the jar file to contain a locale for de-DE and also changing the chrome.rdf to reflect these, I could get the options to open.
But Firefox still uses the normal download manager and I also do not see a new entry in the context menu (I configured cygwin wget with correct path and all and tried a lot of different options).
Can you help me? I am also willing to provide a german locale.

To use with fresh download

tested with FreshDownload 7.05 and Netscape 7.1 under WinME

it seems that the command line requires the user agent to be specified, after making some testing I found this:

/ie [URL] (for Internet Explorer)
/ns [URL] (for Netscape)
/mz [URL] (for Mozilla)

actually seems to be completely indifferent wich one to use, it works in any way, don't know why FD wants to know who sends the url...

problem 1: I noticed there are problems viewing the application list if more than four apps are listed

problem 2: the extension doesn't locate the programs folder if renamed, it would be better if it can locate that folder or the installation paths of the apps

btw great extension! :-)

Fuzzy, check the DW settings and make sure [URL] is in the bottom field of the flashget options. I figure that what's happening is DW is sending no arguments to FlashGet.

Can a feature be added to just copy the target URL to clipboard? (Ment for scripted downloads etc. not for direct URLs)
The downloadmanager then can grab this automatically and start the download dialog box.
BTW doesnīt seem to work with flashget.
Configured as described. Flashget 1.40. Program gets up but no download starts :(
GetRight works. But therfore downloadwith isnīt needed. The clickcatcher plugin works just fine.

Great extension, very useful!

I am not sure that is a bug, but can you do the paths of the dlaod programs not to be with absolute paths (c:\prog\etc), but with relative like the %windir% thingy (not quite sure if there is one for "program files" dir). This doesn't bother me since I am advanced user (not c:\progs\etc ;) ), but can be confusing for a win newbie.

Hi ppl,

Some attention from the developers required...
I'm completely newbie to mozilla/firefox, javascript, ghecko, etc and been using for a week now.
After my move from IE to firebird I was missing my flashget integration. So I've got this plugin... it was offering the "Download with Flashget" option but it was missing "Download all with Flashget". So I had to download 200 files one by one...

So after a bit of wondering what to do I patched downloadwith extension and made a custom exe file which handles all the links from a page, filters only the "file" ones and sends to flashget. I dunno if it's illegal or not for a home use... but it seems this functionality is needed by other people... so my question is: Can I share this to other people? And if yes - what's the procedure?

Thanks

At Germanversion it is C:\Programme\GetRight\getright.exe .

Can you please give us a possibility to change this manually or give us a german Version ? I think this will be just a small thing to change the path. ;-)

Ok, afterall it is YOUR Extension :-)
Would then an "Ignore this Sites" setting in the Automatic Download Tab be also to complicated?
Another Idea but i am almost sure you will find this to complicated: Settings for a certain Filetype with an specific Application AND specific Arguments for the DownloadFolder, replacing the (not working with 0.9+) DownloadSort-Extension.

BTW. I think with working Referrer i would practically never need to disable your Extension...

Hi,

Downloadwith has changed my life and corrected the main problem of Firefox for me : the non integration of download managers. I support the good idea of the addition of a 'download all' in the menu.

But, there's a but, the last corrective of Firefox (Shellblock) seems to disable Downloadwith. So, if no correction is possible, I will reinstall Firefox 0.9.1 without Shellblock et shake about Windows vulnerabilities. Brrrrrrrrr!!!!

Gustavio, will it be possible to have a fix for your indispensable extension? The problem is probably in Firefox and this last corrective wich is too 'hard'. I think that the desactivation of the 'open with' option disallow 'downloadwith'.

Please help us all.

Sorry, sorry,

I wrote a little bit too fast. The problem I got with Shellblock and Downloadwith is purely local, due to the security policy of the job network. All is now OK with some modifications of the installation of Firefox with administrator rights.

Thanks again for 'Downloadwith' and I still support the excellent idea of a 'download all' in the menu of the extension. That would be fine.

I just have a few suggestions for future releases.

1. Add the ability to set move download managers up and down in the list, so I can set my most used download manager at the top of the list.

2. Add the ability to automatically use certain download managers for different files sizes. (i.e. Use wget for files under 1 mg, use leechget for files over 1 mg, prompt if filesize is unknown, etc.)

Thanks!

Great extension, but: When trying to "downloadwith" an https: link (from an https: page) I just get "Invalide URL" in the right-click flyout menu, instead of the Application name. If the "Show URL" option is ticked, no URL is shown either.

Everything works perfectly on normal http: links, with RegetDx settings. Firefox 0.9/0.9.2, DW 0.0.7

Hi,
basically I really appreciate DW. But I have a problem with "catching" links (e.g. of forms, that push a file from the server when a submit button is pressed): The standard Firefox DL manager always comes up (using Firefox 0.8). I want to use DW with GetRight 5.1. Is there any thing I can do to get it working? Thanks in advance!

Greetings to all
Although I'm not a total nitwit I often feel like one when using poorly documented software. This sounds like an excellent & well needed firefox app however I've spent hours experimenting with dozens of settings from the many postings with nothing to show except the uncertainty of a blind man describing an elephant.
Could one of the many experienced members clarify the following?
1.Use Rt. click or not. Advantages or disadvantages?

2. Basic config settings for free, straightforward, non commercial downloaders such as the excellent DLexpert Like many other members I had constant invalid path errors. Clarity is much needed to explain how to bind executables to downloadwith. If such programs can not be used as reliable default downloaders then let's focus on commercial apps.
3. When using commercial apps such as GetRight and all the rest it seems obvious that command lines should simply point to the executable (for instance using a conventional browse button). why all the exceptions like %xxxx%, or xxx~1/. Likewise why the default [URL] wont work for some downloaders.
4. For all the headaches, how much faster can we expect downloads to occur vs the default Firefox downloader. With GetRight beta along with the toGetRight command my speeds are consistantly slower than the Foxes. I imagine another few hours configuring GetRight MIGHT pay off.
For all the bells and whistles don't most of us simply want faster downloads without the crash course in computer science?

Ok... Here's what I've found...

I'm running Fedora Core 3 Test 1, but this should work with others. I'm running Mozilla 1.7.2, but again, this should work with others.

First and foremost, this worked for me. It might completely destroy your computer and everything on it. I make no claims on the suitability of my suggestions to do anything. These instructions are released under the GNU GPL.

Before following any of my instructions, be sure to make a backup copy of your ~/.mozilla directory so you can restore it, and easily get back to where you were. Please, do it. It's easy and quick, and could just save your @$$.

If you can't install from the installation webpage, copy the XPI-file to your computer. Then, File / Open File, and browse to where you saved the XPI. Open it, and it *should* install.

If you install 007, and it shows up as a blank page in your Edit / Preferences / Downloadwith, close Mozilla, delete your ~/.mozilla, and restore your backup. (If you didn't make a backup like a suggested earlier, you'll need to drill down to ~/.mozilla/default/random-string/chrome/ , delete the downloadwith.jar, and edit the chrome.rdf and delete any line with "downloadwith" in it.) Once you are back to where you were, install 006. 006 works fine on my system.

Hopefully, the blank prefs page problem will be fixed with the next release.

TTFN,

ranger_nemo

Download With 0.0.7+, as repackaged on sboulema's site

This does not seem to like working with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040907 Firefox/1.0 PR (NOT FINAL)

Firefox started having problems opening correctly as soon as I installed today's release, to replace yesterday's. Up until today, this repackaged version of DW worked fine with the nightly PR releases of FF.

I would have created a new profile to test things, but the profile manager is broken on todays FF release, alas.

So, I started disabling sets of extensions and restarting FF. When I got to Download With (disabled in a set of three extensions), FF then started opening corectly each time (series of five test openings.)

As soon as I reenabled Download With and restarted FF, the problems arose again; disabled DW, FF fine.

Conclusion is, from my vantage point, that there is some disagreement between today's FF and the DW 0.0.7+

In reply to my own [142], a new profile with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; rv:1.7.3) Gecko/20040908 Firefox/0.10 seems to have fixed the problem.

(I say "seems" as I had a few extensions with the previous profile that will not install in the new one; those were installed pre-1.xPR and would continue to work with later nightly FF releases. Thus, it is possible that there is/was an intereference between Download With and one of those now-missing extensions.)

Did a little experiment, and got DW.7 to work with FF.10PR. Download DW xpi, open with Winzip or similar. Extract "install.rdf". Open same in text editor. Find line "0.9", change 0.9 to 0.10, save file, add it back to xpi file. Drag xpi from WinExplorer and drop in FF window, click install, and restart FF. Not pretty but it works. Comments welcome.

Just change the 0.9 to 0.10 and follow the procedure outlined in post 152.

Options are set via the Extensions window. Highlight the extension you want to configure, then either click the "Options" key or right click and select "Options from the menu.

For DW, go to its options and select "Create new application". From there you can either download configurations for the most popular programs or you can customize your own. See the "Sample downloader settings" link at the top of this page.

One thought on the install.rdf mod- instead of simply changing the maxVersion to 0.10, change it to 0.10+. That would allow it to comply with subsequent releases.

I'm not sure how that would work with release 1.0 and beyond. We shall see.

Great extension !

Just two little questions/suggestions ..

1. I use GetRight and also InstantGet as download managers. While GetRigt has a default configuration, which works fine, I sometimes experience false downloads with InstantGet, as only the link itself is downloaded instead of the linked target. For InstantGet I also use [URL] as argument, which seems to work for most issues. However, is there a better solution ? Unfortunately, InstanGet is not listed under

2. Will there be an update for Firefox 1.0 ?

Best Regards

The extention has been updated. It should now be compatible with versions of Firefox(and assuming Mozilla) up to version 3.0.

If there are fundamental changes to how extentions work in the future though, a re-write may be necessary.

I am a Download With-addict, and so is my Firefox 1.0 PR.
Firefoxes are notoriously very sensitive and delicate animals. Mine has stopped eating since the day your extension became incompatible with the latest release.
I've tried feeding him with other similar extensions, but none of them compared to yours. He's also getting more and more depressed every day.
PLEASE SAVE MY FIREFOX!
Make "download with" edible for him again!
Thank
